Picture Perfect Memories

Do you have a console or sofa table that you designate for displaying your favorite pictures? I do. I periodically change the photos, or add new frames. When I pass by the table, I smile, reflecting on each captured memory.

Summer Hair

Mid-Winter I went from Blonde to Brunette. Not uncommon for a lot of women. We seem to darken our hair during the cooler months and go lighter during the warmer months. My hair has been every color conceivable. Black, dark brown, caramel, golden blonde, platinum, light brown, even purple (but, I'll be honest that was a box-color oops).

Here are a few photos that show my constant evolving hair color:

My natural color is a light brown. I would prefer to look as natural as possible, and I have been toying with having my hair highlighted again. Nothing drastic, something subtle.

Kelly Bensimon has the most beautiful head of hair. I envy her long loose waves and golden locks. I also love Jen Aniston's color when it is darker. When I head into the salon, these two photos will be a guide for my stylist:

Memorial Day

Please do not forget the meaning of this special day. Memorial Day is not about barbecues, it isn't about having a day off from work, it isn't about water skiing on the lake, swimming in the ocean, golfing, or shopping. This day is about honoring those who defended our country and paid the ultimate sacrifice. While you are enjoying life, please remember those who gave theirs.

Selfless Act & Proud Mommy Moment

Today my oldest daughter decided it was time to cut her long hair. She has been growing her locks for nearly two years, in preparation to donate to Locks of Love. Emma wanted to provide at least eleven inches (10 inches is the minimum), and she was able to cut off twelve!

Did you know that over 80% of hair donations come from children wanting to help other children? This makes my heart proud! I am a firm believer that if you teach your children to be selfless, giving, nurturing, empathetic and kind, they will grow to be beautiful adults!

As you well know, I am married to a pilot in the Navy. We are currently on deployment number FIVE (in nine years of marriage). I'm a veteran of deployments, so now I roll with the punches. I'm not only know as Mommy, but also, Daddy, Plumber, Gardner, Housekeeper, Mechanic, Accountant (I think you get the picture) when hubby is away. I take great pride in my resilience, after all, this lifestyle is not for the weak of heart.

This summer we have something wonderful to look forward to, HOMECOMING! Since I, nor my daughters have seen our husband/daddy in six months, we want to look especially terrific when we welcome him home.

I have been searching high and low for coordinating outfits for the girls and moi. Today I had an email from Bloomies, announcing their Brown Bag Sale. In addition,  with the code: BIGSALE you can receive additional savings of 20-30 % off already marked down prices.

I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to find homecoming dresses for the girls and moi. I was in luck! They had exactly what I was looking for.  The best part, I paid a fraction of the original cost! Below are the dresses that we will be wearing when Mr Navy arrives home.

I'm Dreaming of Turks

With school wrapping up, Memorial day around the corner, and summer on our heels, I started reflecting on my all-time favorite vacation.  Last year we took our daughters on the most beautiful family vacation.  My husband and I often wonder how we could ever top it. We took our family to Beaches Turks & Caicos (almost a year later, the kids are still asking to go back).

I contemplated whether or not I wanted to share this story with you - for fear of making Turks & Caicos a more popular vacation destination. The past few years, the islands have been gaining popularity (no longer a hidden gem), and for good reasons (Turks and Caicos are located about 600 miles southeast of Miami) . The water is pristine, crystal clear and gorgeous. Grace Bay Beach has powder white sand, that you could walk for miles (seven to be exact). It is no wonder why Grace Bay, was voted one of the top 12 beaches in the world. We have traveled to countless islands in the Caribbean, by far this has been my favorite spot.

I'm here to say, the Beaches marketing on PBS is brilliant! Each day our girls would say, "can we go there?" So when we decided on our destination last summer, it was a no-brainer as to where we would stay...BEACHES!

Beaches, (the same company who owns the all-inclusive Sandals resorts) has perfected the family vacation. There wasn't a detail they didn't think of. When we arrived in Providenciales (or Provo as the locals refer to it) the weather was humid and hot. After gathering our luggage and waiting in line to have our passports stamped, we exited the airport. We were met by the Beaches staff curb side, with ice cold towels for our faces and ice water. This made the short trip to the resort, tolerable.

Our room was perfection. Stocked with any item we requested. Including a fridge full of water or adult beverages. They cleaned our rooms at least twice daily. The staff was beyond friendly and ready to interact with the children at all times.

We were never at a loss of what to do. The kids loved the water park. I personally loved floating in the lazy river with my girls. My oldest daughter (7), had the best time on the water slides and boogie boarding in the wave pool. By far though, our favorite activity was swimming in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.

My youngest (3), loved meeting all of the Sesame Street characters. She was elated to have embraced Elmo (who is HUGE by the way). There was ice cream at every turn, amazing food (not really common with an all inclusive resorts) and water sports that kept you going until well after the sun set.

We planned to take the girls back again this year, but this was a trip that we always want them to appreciate and look forward to. So, we decided to do something different this summer. We want to ensure that Turks and Caicos won't lose it's lustre for the children. There are several lovely resorts along Grace Bay. However, we will always reserve Beaches for our family and can't wait to return!

You know how much I love to share photos, and this post will not be any different. Here you go:
