Seven years ago, I was fortunate to befriend a woman named April. We lived on the same street, and her husband was also a Navy pilot.
Sadly, April and her family were re-stationed to New Orleans, and I was left without my new close friend.

Thankfully with Facebook, email and texting, we have been able to keep in touch through the years.
When we first met, we both had one child. Fast forward to present day, and they have two more children and we added Miss O to our family.
Thankfully, my friend is not too far, she now lives in DC, under four hours away (without the monstrous traffic). However, by this Fall we should be back in to living in the same city! You part ways, but somehow always manage to find your way back to each other.

Since saying our goodbyes in California, our family has lived in Alabama, Texas and now Virginia. My friend's family has lived in Louisiana, Michigan, and DC - her husband also spent a full year in Afghanistan.
This Memorial Day weekend, my friend, her husband and their three children, braved the traffic and spent a few days with us. We house hunted, went out to eat, relaxed, watched movies and hit the beach (there may have been a few Sangrias, PiƱa Coladas and beers consumed as well).
Watching our children play together (again) was surreal. Who knew that after all these years, we could just pick up where we left off.

ReplyDeleteAww, that is so awesome! I love being able to pick up with friends like that! I am so happy for y'all, that is so exciting!
ReplyDeleteThanks to your husband and your family (and your friend's, too) for all you give for our country.
ReplyDeleteGlad your paths have re-crossed!
That is so awesome. A big thank you to your family. I don't know how you do it but our whole country is blessed by the sacrifices you all make.
ReplyDeleteLove! I just had a similar reunion with my college girlfriends. We live all over the country, and the world now. One of us was back from AbuDabi visiting and we had the chance to meet up in San Diego. It was so great to pick up where we left off. I think social media has a lot to do with that as well. Keeps everyone connected- whether we like it or not! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so amazing! What sadness it brings when your friends move away, but great joy when they come back in your lives. So happy for you!
